Sophie Blackman, sister of Lucie Blackman who was murdered in Japan in 2000, speaks to eyebrow magazine about dealing with loss, tragedy in the media and her campaign to promote personal safety.
You’ll no doubt all remember the news report about Lucie Blackman, the blond-haired beauty, that was murdered in Japan whilst working as a nightclub hostess. Sophie Blackman, her younger sister, talks about rape, her suicide attempt, life after her sister, how she felt about her sister’s death and her campaign for safety.
We met and interviewed Sophie just before our eyebrow Christmas party (hence the slightly grainy camera shot; we were in the pub, not that that is any excuse!)
Sophie was lovely. We chatted for a while and she even stayed for some drinks after the interview. One of our writers at the time approached her: ‘I can’t work out where I know you from’, she exclaimed. Sophie was very dignified in her response: ‘I think you may have recognised me through my sister, Lucie Blackman’.
‘Ah’, said the blushing girl, as the whole room stiffened.
‘Don’t worry, it happens a lot’, Sophie laughed.
